The Horse Conch Shell is the state seashell of Florida. Florida, the tingle of romance which enwraps the name carries back memories of the gallant Spaniard, Ponce de Leon, who came seeking the fountain of youth. Ponce de Leon named the state Florida, or “Full of Flowers.” No part of the state is far from water. From the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, from the Space Coast to the Emerald Coast, Floridians have a deep connection to the water and the state’s beaches. Nothing reminds a Floridian of home like seashells, especially the prized Horse Conch Shell.
